Sir,

With reference to my despatch No.

73 of April 16th, I have the honour

to inform you that, on the recommendation

of the Astronomer Royal, I have selected Mr C.W. Jeffries, a Computer at the Royal Observatory, Cape of Good

Hope, for appointment to the post

of First Asst at the Hong Kong Observatory.

2. I enclose copies of correspondence

with Mr Jeffries, from which you

will observe that he has been requested

to inform the Col Sec of the

date when he may be expected to arrive

in Hong Kong. I have to request that on

his arrival you will cause him to be

furnished with the usual formal

letter of appointment.

3. The Treasury Chest Officer

at Cape Town will be asked to forward

to the Col Sec the agreement, which

Mr Jeffries will be required to sign

in respect of the cost of his passage.
